Best Neighborhoods to Live in the Orlando Area
Hey there, fellow moms! If you’re anything like me, you know that choosing the right neighborhood is a huge part of making a happy home. After moving to Orlando, I’ve explored many neighborhoods, each with its own unique charm. Here are some of the best neighborhoods that I think every family should consider, along with a few personal anecdotes about my adventures with my kids—Lily, Emma, and Jimmy!
1. Winter Park
Winter Park is often at the top of the list for a reason. With its beautiful parks, lakes, and vibrant downtown, it feels like a little slice of paradise. I love taking the kids to Central Park, where they can run around and enjoy the playground. Just last weekend, we had a picnic there, and Emma spent an hour chasing squirrels while Lily rolled her eyes, claiming they were “so silly.”
The local farmer’s market on Saturdays is another highlight. We love picking up fresh produce and homemade treats. I can’t tell you how many times we’ve left with a basket full of goodies and a smile on our faces!
2. Lake Nona
Lake Nona is a great choice for active families. This area has fantastic walking and biking trails, which is perfect for our family. I remember one sunny afternoon when James and I took the kids on a bike ride along the Lake Nona Trail. We ended up at a little park where Jimmy learned to ride his bike without training wheels. Watching him wobble and then finally take off was a moment I’ll never forget!
The community vibe here is amazing, and there are plenty of family-friendly events throughout the year, like food festivals and outdoor movie nights.
3. College Park
If you’re looking for a neighborhood with character, College Park might just be your spot. This area has charming historic homes and a strong sense of community. The local shops and cafes are a hit with the kids, especially Taco Sweets, where we indulge in ice cream after school. One day, I took Lily and Emma for a treat, and they both insisted on trying the “craziest” flavors. Watching them pick cotton candy and bubblegum ice cream was hilarious!
Plus, College Park hosts events like the College Park Art Festival, which is perfect for getting the kids involved in the local culture.
4. Dr. Phillips
Dr. Phillips is known for its excellent schools and family-friendly amenities. It’s also home to Restaurant Row, where you can find everything from sushi to Italian food. One Friday night, James and I decided to try a new restaurant, and we brought the kids along for a “family date night.” They ended up loving the food and even tried some new dishes! I still remember the look on Emma’s face when she discovered she liked shrimp for the first time.
Dr. Phillips also has beautiful parks, like Lake Bessie Park, where we spend our weekends having fun in the sun.
5. Windermere
If you’re dreaming of a picturesque neighborhood, Windermere might be your best bet. With its stunning lakes and family-friendly environment, it’s truly beautiful. I often take the kids to Windermere Recreation Center, where they can swim and play. One summer day, we spent hours at the pool, and Jimmy didn’t want to leave! His little giggles while splashing around were music to my ears.
Windermere also has a close-knit community feel, with events like holiday parades and outdoor movie nights that bring everyone together.
