This is for all the single parents out there.
Oh the guilt I sometimes felt! Right? I worked full time and so all the after school sports and mommy play dates and classroom activities…yeah I missed out on all of those and so did my kids. Sometimes I was traveling on their birthdays and sometimes, hell MOST times, I was too tired to cook dinner so we went out for our meals. Yeah and some of those meals were fast food.
But you know what? I wouldn’t TRADE it for a thing. My kids were doing their own laundry by fifth grade, feeding themselves, managing their money…being independent because that’s what our circumstances required of all of us. And today, they are doing their thing. They are happy, passion-filled adults doing what they love.
Helen was never much into anything “traditional” (whatever that means).
So it comes as absolutely no surprise to anyone that she has discovered roller skating as a passion. One day she will be a derby girl and is learning the basics from a tribe of badass, amazing womentors who encourage her to be herself unabashedly.
So to all the single parents out there I say “You got this. There is no such thing as a broken family. You are whole and brilliant and beautiful just the way you are.”
