Girls on the Run
A girl in one of our Girls on the Run programs, wrote a paper on me, about a year ago. Her coach scanned and sent me a copy of the essay. It was absolutely awesome…a full timeline and historical recant of everything related to my starting Girls on the Run.
But to top it off, in the last paragraph, she wrote. “Molly Barker is a role model to girls everywhere. And she is still alive today.”
It’s okay. I about laughed my head off too. I’m only 51 and have no plans to move along, for many years to come. One afternoon, I went to visit her site, to indeed prove that I was still alive. We were both pleasantly surprised by the other!
I spend a huge portion of my time visiting many of our 190 Girls on the Run councils around North America. Most visits usually entail time with the girls, time with our volunteers and staff and time with our funders and sponsors (both present and potential). What occurs during that time varies depending on the needs of that council, but suffice it to say that I always feel safe, comfortable and at home with everyone Girls on the Run-related; and I always come home tired (:)), inspired, uplifted and fueled with optimism.
If you are associated with Girls on the Run and have an interesting opportunity I should know about (and better yet, be connected with) please email molly@girlsontherun.org. Either I or Lindsay, who helps to manage my appearances and speaking engagements will take care of you, right away!
