What I Do
There is some obvious irony in the title of this page based on the title of the blog. Clearly I “wander through nothingness” but occasionally that wandering takes me to cities where it is my privilege to share time and space with the tens of thousands of girls, families, coaches and administrators connected to the Girls on the Run Movement as well as additional folks who, like us, are simply seeking that sense of nothingness…in order to choose the somethingness of their lives.
I am also an Ashoka Fellow (www.ashoka.org) and frequently travel to share the importance of “Everyone a Changemaker”-a tagline based on the Gandhi quote, “Be the change you wish to see in the world.” They posted a very candid and thorough bio of me if you’d like to see it. http://usa.ashoka.org/fellow/molly-barker
Additionally, I am one of the small percentage of people who absolutely love public speaking. Story telling was something my father did quite well and my mother, too, through her poetry, so my love for sharing strength, love and comfort through story telling is something I come by quite honestly.
I believe that we are all bestowed with a number of gifts…some more potent than others. One of my greatest gifts is my ability to create experiences (through public speaking, writing curricula, encouraging and supporting others who create/cultivate/grow and start businesses or non-profits) which allow folks to fall into that sense of nothingness…so they can stop waiting for joy/peace/contentedness and start leaning into the lives they want…with focus, intention and mindfulness.
This is precisely what Girls on the Run does for young girls and frankly what I’d like to help you (and me do)…to recognize at any point that we are not defined or ruled by any societal or cultural stereotypes but are truly free to be that which we CHOOSE to be. Applying this intentional and mindful process in our workplaces, our family lives, our love lives…has proven to, at least in my experience, lead to joy, wonder, peace and a contented sense of purpose.
If you are interested in learning more about my work, cruise through the pages linked to this one. I outline in a bit more detail the types of things I love to do and am therefore good at doing! Let’s have some fun!
